Association for the Advancement of Midwifery in Guatemala

Asociación para la Promoción de la Partería en Guatemala

Welcome! Bienvenido!

There are more than 20,000 midwives in Guatemala and approximately 75% of all births are mediated by a midwife. Midwives are important members of the community and provide critical care in rural communities.

We are midwives who share our skills with other midwives. We honor the traditions and culture of our communities. And we are dedicated to improving our training and our skills to provide the best possible care for women, children and their families.

We thank the Rotary Foundation and the support provided by the Rotary Club of Guatemala City and Nashua New Hampshire, USA. UU for your generous support.

Your support is welcome. If you would like to make a donation to support our work and the midwives of Guatemala and live outside Guatemala, please visit our Donation page on this website.

Thank you!

OB Conference

ASOPAR recently sponsored one of our very experienced members, Carmelina Morales, to attend the XLVI National Congress for Gynecology and Obstetrics in Guatemala This important annual meeting was held this year, at the Hotel Barcelo from the 8th-12th of July, in Guatemala City.

Carmelina tells us that it was an amazing day and that she gained critical knowledge and experience she will share with others. Here in the photo you can see her learning how to perform an emergency suturing for a hemorrhage. Many women die from hemorrhaging in Guatemala so this is a live-saving skill to know in an emergency when a physician is not available.

We are grateful to the Association for Gynecology and Obstetrics in Guatemala for providing us with a reduced registration fee.

New Dopper Units – Donated by Students in Nashua New Hampshire!!

Students from Nashua New Hampshire, as members of the Rotary Interact Club of Nashua High School South, contributed over $1248 for the purchase of 26 Dopper Units for the midwives of ASOPAR. Doppler units can assist the midwife in making important assessments of the health and wellbeing of the baby. We are grateful for the generosity of the students in making this purchase possible!!  Dr Ernie Marino and Dr Adrian Levesque, from Nashua Rotary Club present the Acknowledgement Awards to the student leaders!!
